Shirakawa-go es una aldea UNESCO de granjas gassho-zukuri («manos en oración»). Los tejados empinados de 60 grados de paja repelen la nieve y antaño albergaban familias multigeneracionales. La iluminación invernal es limitada y requiere reserva.
