O Castelo de Himeji, concluído em 1609, é Patrimônio Mundial e Tesouro Nacional. Suas paredes de gesso branco lembram uma garça branca em voo, daí o apelido «Castelo da Garça Branca». Após a restauração de 2009-2015, luz um branco impecável.
