Ang Horyu-ji, itinatag 607 ni Prinsipe Shotoku, ay naglalaman ng pinakaluma na natitirang kahoy na gusali sa mundo. Ang Sai-in complex, kasama ang Kondo at five-story pagoda, ay nakaligtas mula late ika-7/early ika-8 siglo. Isa sa unang lugar ng UNESCO ng Japan (1993), kayamanan ng Buddhist art.
