About this location: Komatsunagi Cherry Tree
The Komatsunagi Cherry Tree is a 400+ year-old Edohigan in the mountain hamlet of Chisato in Achi Village. Legend says Minamoto no Yoshitsune tied his horse to it on his journey to Oshu, giving the tree its name («Horse-Tying Cherry»). It stands alone by terraced rice fields with the dignity of an old warrior. At full bloom in mid-to-late April, its reflection in flooded paddies under the stars is one of Nagano's iconic single-tree views.
