Yufuin is een hooglands-onsendorp versierd met de berg Yufu. Yunotsubo-kaido, het Kinrin-meer, straatscènes met ochtendmist en kunstruimtes in rustige bossen bieden een rustig alternatief voor Beppu. De herfst-winterse ochtendmist boven het Kinrin-meer moet gefotografeerd worden.

- Lake Kinrin — a rare pond where hot springs and cold water mix; the autumn-to-winter dawn mist transports you to another world (15-minute lakeside walk)
- Mt. Yufu — a 1,583 m twin-peaked active volcano, the symbol of the Yufuin Basin; the classic frame is from Yunotsubo-kaido
- Yunotsubo-kaido — about 1 km from Yufuin Station to Lake Kinrin, lined with traditional townhouses, cafés, and craft shops
- Ryokan district — strict signage rules and low-rise architecture preserve the elegant streetscape; warm lighting at night
- Yufu-mi-dori (Yufuin Station front) — Arata Isozaki designed the 1990 Yufuin Station; a great spot for Mt. Yufu compositions
