Lo stretto di Naruto, tra Tokushima e l'isola di Awaji, è tra le tre maggiori correnti di marea al mondo (largh. max 1,3 km). Le maree di sigizie primaverili e autunnali producono vortici fino a 20 m: fotografate dalle barche o dalla passerella Uzu-no-Michi sotto il ponte Onaruto.
